Summer Playlist of Classic Rock and Pop

I got the urge to make a new playlist today, for the kind of summer we have here at home, gray skies but still hot enough not to wear a jacket.

  • The Beatles - Her Majesty
  • Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz
  • The Kinks - The Village Green Preservation Society
  • The Hollies - He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother
  • The Who - Summertime Blues (Studio Version)
  • The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Manic Depression
  • Jeff Beck - Beck's Bolero
  • The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City
  • Patty Smith - Because the Night
  • Slade - Everyday
  • Simon & Garfunkel - The Sounds of Silence
  • Blood, Sweat and Tears - I Can't Quit Her
  • The Beatles - Sun King
  • Blood, Sweat and Tears - Spinning Wheel
Hope you enjoy this one, it's a fine blend of older rock & pop songs, quite many of them with exciting stories behind them.
If you have any songs that would fit in the playlist, or any recommendations of good music in the same style, I'd appreciate any feedback.

The good feeling of accomplishment, while doing practically nothing

    Project at completion
Last weekend I got a call from a friend saying he had bought a liqueur cabinet and he needed help installing it. With me not being the most practical guy, this of course meant he needed company while doing it himself.
When finished with the cabinet, me having handed over the tools he didn't need, we saw there was a need for shelves next to it, so he could have his audiobook and cd collection in his living room.
Having done some measurements, we were off to the hardware store, buying shelves.
When we returned home, all will to do anything had disappeared, so, while sitting down looking at the cabinet and the empty space, the project got temporarily postponed.
But, after a half small beer each (we both had business to do that included driving later in the evening), our working-spirits were again at high, possibly more so than earlier, we got it together and started mounting the shelves. This time I was more involved, not necessarily doing more of the actual work, it was more like active guidance.
At completion, we were both very satisfied with the accomplishment, even though most of the work was done by him. This surprised me, because I can't understand how I got that feeling while not really doing very much. But in the end who cares, the project turned out really fine and he had his audiobooks more accessible.

    Quick note

Going through earlier posts in norwegian, I discovered a screenshot from my linux-box probably running Kubuntu 7.04 or something. Kinda neat, even with the wannabe Vista window-borders.
Miss the days I liked using KDE.

    Nuclear Blondes

I was sitting in class yesterday, and some of the girls was discussing the situation in Japan, and the nuclear plants blowing up and evacuation and stuff.
"Wasn't there something about #### on the news too?" says one. #### is a smaller city about an hour away from here. "Yeah, I heard too," says one of the other girls. Feeling like having some fun, I joined the conversation. "There was something about a guy building a nuclear reactor in his basement to cut the energy bill, but then he ran out of liquid nitrogen, so the whole thing's about to blow up." "OMG, seriously?! Is it going to hit #### (where we live) too??!" says the smartest girl in class. Rather flummoxed, and with my face in serious difficulties staying serious, I replied "Yeah, there is a certain chance, but it might just hit ####." That's about five minutes from here. Most of them was at this point becoming really alarmed, so it was time to stop before things went out of control, and reveal the joke.

If any of you girls read this, I am sorry, but it was just perfect for my blog. No harm intended.

    Back in Black

This shall be my return to blogging, after previous efforts, I shall try to make an effort to update this blog whenever I have something worth mentioning.

As you might see, the previous posts here are in Norwegian. I have now, obviously, gone over to writing in English. This is for several reasons: Firstly, there are probably very few people out there, at least for now, writing in English will broaden that audience a tad. As I see it, Norwegian isn't all that great, and writing in English might make a tiny step in the process of lowering the usage of it, and at the same helping me getting used to using it more frequently.

To finish of this post, I'd like to share a pretty neat venn diagram i found on GeeksAreSexy.net

    PCen is going down

// Comment from 2011 me: Trimmed down this post a bit, leaving only the part where I express my resentment of bad hardware,  especially the kind thats running Windows XP. Use Google Translate for english version.
